For a person you loved deeply, would you be willing to move to a distant country knowing there would be little chance of seeing your friends or family again?I think that for a person that I loved deeply, I would move to a distant country. Of course I would miss seeing my friends. However, with today’s technology, I could talk to them by e-mail and IM, video conference with them with web cams, and talk to them on a cell phone or by IP phone over the Internet. This is assuming that I moved to a civilized distant country like Germany, Japan, or Singapore. Now if I moved somewhere like in Africa, or Bhutan, or one of those new Russian countries, then I would be in trouble. I think that I would still move though.
The biggest problem I would have is not being able to see my family. It’s hard enough now seeing them, they are in Seattle and I am here in S. F. I talk to them generally every other week, but only get to see them once or twice a year at the holidays. I wish that I could see them more often, but I’m still figuring this whole after college/rest of your life thing. Hopefully, once I move, I can start to save money and see them more often.
Has much as I love my family, for the right person, I would give them up and follow that person to the ends of the Earth. With luck, we would move to a country that I could have a computer and Internet. I would have to have my brother hook up a web cam and teach my parents how to use it. Part of me thinks that I am a fool, giving up parts of myself for the love of another person. But that is the kind of romantic idiot I am I guess.
