Friday Five for June 20th, 2003

1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
I think the official name for my hair type is kinky. Right now it is at what I would consider a medium length, although it is reaching “afro” levels.
2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
Not much change really. It started out has a big ass afro in the late 70’s. I was able to get the afro down to more manageable levels and moved on to a flat top/fade cut for a long time. The only drastic haircut that I have had is when I have had my hair straightened
. Unfortunately, I had only one friend that liked it and had good comments about it; everybody else hated it. It was also really difficult to take care of, something that I had trouble doing. In recent times, I have completely shaved my head and gone for a bald look

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
If I have time, I’ll comb it all out and then kinda pat it into shape. Otherwise I throw a hat on and go out the door.
4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
**sigh** Although everybody else hates it, I really love Michael Jackson’s hair in Remember The Time video. If I could have the hairdresser to help me take care of it everyday, then I think I would. Also been thinking of getting my hair braided or twisted. The problem with both of these hair styles is that you really can shampoo your hair once you get your hair done, something that I’m not sure I can do.
5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
When I first came to S. F., could not find a barber that could cut my hair. We are talking at one point, after waiting an hour, one barber refused to cut my hair. But the worse was this one barber that just fucked up my hair. It was all uneven, she nicked me a number of times with the clippers. The first time since I was a little boy that I left the barber in tears.

Friday Five for May 23rd, 2003

the friday five
1. What brand of toothpaste do you use? Right now I am using Mentadent Advance Whitening Formula. I don’t really like it, but I’m using it just because I needed to save at the supermarket and couldn’t get Rembrant Whitening Toothpaste. I think that Rembrant is the better toothpaste, however it is on the pricey side. Now that I will be moving out, I will def. be going back to it though.
2. What brand of toilet paper do you prefer? I don’t particularly care about the brand of toilet paper. The main requirement is that it is double ply; my ass is too preciuous to abuse it with single ply.
3. What brand(s) of shoes do you wear? Again, I have no favorite brand of shoes. For work, the main requirement is that the shoes are steel toed, since I am around heavy objects sometimes. I mainly shop for shoes at Payless Shoes, so whatever brands they have is what I buy.
4. What brand of soda do you drink?Pepsi hands down is my favorite soda. Not to say that I won’t drink a Coke or any other brands. RC Cola is good also, however there is only one place in S.F. that I know that has it. And then I’ll experiment with the new flavors that come out; most of them have disappointed though. Only Vallina Coke was any good, the rest are too sweet.
5. What brand of gum do you chew? No particular brand either. I’m a notorious bad gum chewer. I’ll just chew for a couple of min and then spit it out.

The Friday Five for May 16th, 2003

1. What drinking water do you prefer — tap, bottle, purifier, etc.? Purified, Bottle, Flavored, Tap in that order. I have a hard time justifling buying bottled water when I can just purify it at home myself. Not a big fan of the flavored waters, but will choose those over tap water any day.
2. What are your favourite flavor of chips?Sour Cream & Onions and Ranch. Cheese flavored chips are eh, and I really don’t like the BBQ or “red” flavored chips.
3. Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most? Baking deserts are the dishies that I enjoy most making. With cakes, it gives me a chance to practice my frosting and icing skills, which I learned from working at Baskin Robbins. Sadly, it’s been a very long time since I have baked anything.
4. How do you have your eggs? Scrambled; not a big fan of yolk.
5. Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out? That would have to be the Xmas dinner that me and my friends had last year at Gabi’s. It turned out pretty good considering how many hands were in the kitchen and the amount of alcohol that was drunk while preparing the food.

Friday Five for May 8th, 2003

1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not?I am a somewhat organized person. I tend to leave things in categorical piles and groups. It’s those groups that are disorganized. In my room, for instance, I have a pile of bills and important paperwork, two piles of clothes separated by whites and colors, a pile of stuff that I wanted to put on my web site.
2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly? I used to be known for my planners, and always misplacing it. I kept one until I graduated from college; once the backpack was gone, it was too much to carry around. When I had it I would use it regularly, keeping dates, addresses, and appointments in it.
3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now? My desk at work is organized in the fact that I have a pile of paperwork for the warehouse move. It’s the stuff within the pile that needs to be organized. Actually, it’s not totally organized, the desk that it. The pen drawer needs to be cleaned and organized badly. Has for home, my computer files are somewhat organized. My picture files are in their folder by the event or topic of the pictures. I want to give keyword and categories to all the pictures. However that is an tall order when you have a CD’s worth of pictures.
4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter? It depends. Right now, my DVD collection is alphabetize, but my CD’s and books aren’t. Once I move, I will probably go through and alphabetize my CD’s and books. Well, not the books. The books I just usually organize by size and series.
5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to organize? That would easily be the accounting information at the warehouse. The accounting dept got kicked out of the house that they were using has their dept while the bookstore renovation was going on. SO all of the archive stuff got sent over to the warehouse in mass disarray. I have spent the last year trying to get some organization to it.

Friday Five for May 2, 2003

**note** There are so many songs that I could fit into these questions, I only picked out the songs that were playing in my Creative Jukebox at the time.
1. Name one song you hate to admit you like. Justin Timberlake – Rock Your Body **sigh** I feel like such a hypocrite, esp after I did a rant about coporate radio sucking so bad, but I like this song actually. I’ve like the last three singles that have come out and thought about buying the album. He reminds me of a young Michael Jackson for some reason.
2. Name two songs that always make you cry. Moby – When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die; It is such a haunting song and I get a little teary listing to it (the vocals sound like Annie Lennox. INXS – Never Tear Us Apart; I have been crying to this song ever since it came out in the 80’s.
3. Name three songs that turn you on. Prince – Gett Off; Half if not 2/3 of Prince’s songs are about sex. There is actually another Prince song that is really good, but I can’t think of it. I think it was on the Diamonds/Pearls album. Janet Jackson – Someday Is Tonight; I had the greatest, sexiest video in my head for this song in high school. Just thinking about this song aouses me. INXS – Kick Maybe not the sexiest song out there. However, there is just something…raw, like rock/roll raw that is sensual to me. Maybe it’s lead singer Michael Hutchison that does it for me.
4. Name four songs that always make you feel good. BT – Dreaming; There is probably a list of 5-10 BT mixes that make me feel good. This just happens to be the one playing at the time. James – Sometimes (Lester Piggott); James is proably better know for their hit Laid, however I am always replaying this song after I hear it. James Brown – Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag; It’s James Brown, enuf said. Prodigy – Breathe ; this song gets my blood racing and my body flailing. Then there is the slow part, catch your breath, and then start all over again.
5. Name five songs you couldn’t ever do without. The Doors – The End; Counting Crows – Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby; Dave Matthews Band – Proudest Monkey; Oasis – Champagne Supernova; Moulin Rouge Soundtrack – Hindi Sad Diamonds. There are so many more I could add to this list, but these are the first five that came up on my Jukebox

Friday Five for April 18, 2003

1. Who is your favorite celebrity? There are so many, I don’t think that I could just name one or 10….
2. Who is your least favorite?Carrot Top followed closely by Howard Stern. Someone should have killed these two guy a long time ago.
3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life?I used to goto school with Jacoby and Dave of Papa Roach. Also met Ricki Lake and family at Long Beach Airport.
4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?On the one hand, who doesn’t want to be famous. The attention, the glamour, Joan and Melissa critiquing your outfit on the red carpet. Still every time I watch my Madonna DVD and watch the video for Drowned World/Substitute For Love and I think better of being a celebrity
5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?I think that Madonna is has good as choice as any…Or maybe Michael Jackson, if for nothing else, to try and clean up him image. Although, I doubt that I could get a lot done in just one day.

Friday Five for April 11, 2003

1. What was the first band you saw in concert? I was in Korea and I saw The Jets at the base. They were doing an USOtour through Asia.
2. Who is your favorite artist/band now? **sigh** Right now I am liking Coldplay, Norah Jones, Missy Elliot. For the most part, corporate FM radio has deaden my ears and killed music has we know it.
3. What’s your favorite song? The songs of the month are: Allyah,Miss You; Missy Elliot, Gossip Folks; Missy Elliot andBeyonce Knowles , Nothing Out There For Me; Coldplay,Clocks; Norah Jones, Come Away With Me, Jay-Zand Beyonce Knowles,’03 Bonnie & Clyde. Those are the ones that come to mind right now.
4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be? A guitar. Guys who play guitar can always get the chicks.
5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
I’ve always wanted to meet Jim Morrison. Like, if I had to fly to some musical icon grave to place a rose, then his would be it. He just seems to be a fasinating person to me. Wonder if it would be better than I think it could be or a big disapointment.

Friday Five for April 4, 2003

1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?Let’s See:
1) My Aunt Jackie/Uncle Jimmy’s house; 1663 Darren Circle, Portsmouth VA
2) The house in Petersburg VA
3) Suseong Dong-a Apartments, Daegu Korea
4) Mirinae Mansion Apartments, Daegu Korea
5) Another apartment building in Daegu Korea
6) 2348 Driftwood Way, San Leandro CA
7) 624 Eagle River Court, Vacaville CA
8) Mary Ward Hall Apt 4H, 800 Font Blvd, San Francisco CA
9) 1631 Prince St, Berkeley CA
10)Residence Apartments, 755 Font Blvd Apt 1503, San Francisco CA
11)55 Chumasero Drive Apt 9H, San Francisco CA
12)The Village @ Centennial Square, 750 Font Blvd Apt 6B, San Francisco CA
13)152 Onondaga Ave, San Francisco CA
14)527 Font Blvd,San Francisco CA
2. Which was your favorite and why? Hmm, tough choice. I’m going to go with Mirinae Apartments in Korea. Mirinae Apartments were so cool has a kid 6 building with 12-15 floors, and two elevators on either end of the buildings. I remember on rainy days, we would just play tag in the buildings, running up and down the stairs, trying not to get caught in the elevator, and driving the security guard crazy. The best thing about these apartments was that you could travel between the buildings in the basement, by crawling under and on top of the water and gas pipes. There was this high school next to the apartments and one day during the summer, my group got all the mirrors we could and shined the sun into the classes, pissing off all of the teachers and students. Later that day we were going to the army base that was near by. We just happen to be passing the high school when school was let out. Next thing we knew, there was a small mob chasing us. They chased us all the way to the base and I’m sure we barely escaped with our lives. I’m sure the MP’s (military police) on duty didn’t know what to make of it.
3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why? The move itself I don’t find too stressful. There is stress involved, and the packing and the unpacking. However, I find the act of looking for a new place more stressful than the actual move. My roommate and I are in the process of looking right now, and I know that I have been more stressed lately. I guess I fear that I won’t find anything and be forced to live out on the streets or something.
4. What’s more important, location or price? Right now, price more important than location, to a certain extent. I mean, I won’t move into Hunter’s Point, Visacation Valley, or the Tenderloin anytime soon. Also I want to stay in San Francisco so I could be close to work, but if the price was right, I would be willing to live out the city.
5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?Right now, if it has a washer/dryer inside the apt/house, that would be the ultimate dream for me. Down the line, the dream house that I would like to own, I think the biggest thing would be technology. Like Bill Gates house, all computerized and all. Not having cable, it’s been awhile since I’ve see MTV Cribs, so I don’t know the latest in superstar housing motif. I would want the usual stuff; the pool (even though I can’t swim), the jacuzzi, the fitness room, the home theater, the game room, the grand dining room, etc.

Friday Five for March 28th, 2003

1. What was your most memorable moment from the last week? The photo shoot that I did was pretty memorable, but I think the what really stood out was something that happened on Monday. I had gone to the school and made a delivery and I went up to the Mezzanine level of the Student Center to watch some of the protests with some of the managers. Me and Amber were pretty much scoffing at the protesters, but Brian had this look on his face, like he was reliving some part of his past. I thought it was interesting, but just chucked it in the records file until I saw him today for our discussion group. During our discussion, the mind started wandering, and I wondered if Brian was in any of the protests in the 60’s/70’s. I don’t know, I just started thinking of Brian in a different light.
2. What one person touched your life this week? That would have to be Amy. She honored me this week in a special way. I am honored to be allow into a small part of her life. Thank you
3. How have you helped someone this week?I washed the dishes for Mike even though it was his turn to wash the dishes. I am also babysiting Brock for Amber W. so she can goto the Giants game. And I am hooking up April with Photoshop (if I don’t forget it). Oh yeah, I also helped Barry and Kurt with their MechWarrior 4 skills. 🙂
4. What one thing do you need to get done by this time next week? I need to come up with some floor plan designs for the new warehouse to determine how much shelving we need to purchase for it.
5. What one thing will you do over the next seven days to make your world a better place?I will write a letter to Michelle Danielsen (sorry, I refuse to use that bastard’s name that you were married to) who is serving in the Middle East right now. I will amuse her with all of the boring details of my life, I will send her some Girl Scout cookies if I can find some, and I will tell her how proud of her I am and how honored I am that she is serving in the military and defending my rights and freedoms.

Friday Five for March 21, 2003

1. If you had the chance to meet someone you’ve never met, from the past or present, who would it be? It would have to be Jesus Christ and my biological parents.
2. If you had to live in a different century, past or future, which would it be? Well, since people of darker skin have been treated like crap in previous centuries, I would have to say sometime in the future.
3. If you had to move anywhere else on Earth, where would it be? I would want to buy my own island, either in the Pacific or in The Caribbean. On this island, I would build a small castle, with a waterfall behind it. I actually had this written out in great detail in the 11th grade, it was 15+ pages and I was only half done. Unfortunately, I lost it, and have never been able to fully recreate what I wrote.
4. If you had to be a fictional character, who would it be? Hmmm….So many to choose from. Going to have to narrow this down:
Out of my DVD movies (non cartoon) – Pierce Brosnan/Thomas Crown
Out of my DVD movies (cartoon/anime) – Folken Fanel from Escaflowne.
Out of my novels fantasy – Drizzt Do’Urden
Out of my novels Sci-fi – Roy Folker from Robotech
Out of my novels Vampires – Armand
Out of my novels Star Wars – Han Solo
5. If you had to live with having someone else’s face as your own for the rest of your life, whose would it be? Joseph Fines I think (mainly because of the eyes) Although, maybe after watching the Oscars, I’ll come back and change my mind.
