Friday Five for 3/14/03

1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not? I don’t mind talking on the phone, but I’m sure that my friends don’t see it that way sometimes (I’ll explain more on question#3). However, I’d rather talk to the person in person than over the phone. But doesn’t everybody prefer that.
2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone? According to my cell phone, it was April. But I talked to Lesa for awhile on Monday or Tuesday, I think. Actually the last person I talked to was Paulfrom work, who asked me a question about something we had at the warehouse.
3. About how many telephones do you have at home? There are 3 telephones total that I use. I have this phone in my room hanging on my desk. Then there is the cordless phone which is an older model of this phone. The phone is actually Mike’s phone. Lastly, there is my cell phone, the Panasonic Allure. The plan was that Mike and I were going to use our cell phones more than the regular phones, so I could just get basic phone service. Actually, all I wanted was just DSL, but you have to get phone service to get DSL. Anyway, the problem is that I get really bad reception here inside my house. Actually, it’s all around SF State; maybe it’s the fog or something. So in order for me to talk to someone on the phone, I either have to go outside, where it is usually cold; get into the proper position and alignment (standing in the lotus flower yoga position upside down); or talk to people while I’m at work, or at the clubhouse, or anywhere else but home. In addition to that, I hate to talk on the phone while I’m driving (I never have my headpiece with me for some reason). So if someone calls while I’m driving, I’m usually very short with them and it seems that I don’t want to talk to them.
4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened? Bad phone manners….I don’t think so. I mean, I’ve had people take me with them to the bathroom, but they’ve been close friends, so it was O. K. Then there was the whole Gabi blow drying her hair incident (You had to be there and you have to know Gabi (**big picture of Gabi and Amber**). As for me, I have the tendency to leave long messages from time to time. Like 2, 5, 10 minute messages. But only rarely.
5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not? I’m kinda either or about it. It’s just a matter of doing it. I try to remember to call or e-mail people, and I think that I’m better at it. However, I think that my track record is still pretty bad.

Friday Five For 2/28/03

1. What is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)? I like Science Fiction and Fantasy novels; a mix between the mass paperback stuff (Dragonlance, Star Wars) and then some heavier stuff (J.R.R Toilken, William Gibson). I also like reading computer books and magazines; either technical stuff or the latest Computer Gaming World. Then of course, there is the waiting for the latest Robert Jordan or Harry Potter novel.
2. What is your favorite novel? There are so many to choose from. I honestly don’t think that I can pick.
3. Do you have a favorite poem? (Share it!)
Tygre, tygre, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water’d heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
Tygre, tygre, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

4. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read? Don’t really know. I wish that I could read The Bible and understand it a little better. Hmmm. There’s always War and Peace, I guess.

Friday Five for 2/14/03

1. Explain why you started to journal/blog. Well, I had started paper journals on and off for years, I just never kept them up for very long. So when I got my computer, I decided that I would do one on my computer. I started searching around for journal/diary software and discovered Blogger, Radioland (I think), and LiveJournal. I liked LiveJournal the best and on May 20th, 2000 I posted my first entry.
2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not? I don’t think so. I’ve mention to my coworkers that I have a web site and journal, but have never given the address out. It wouldn’t be too hard to find if they wanted too. My brother knows that I have a journal and reads it from time to time. My mom also knows that I have a journal, however the only times she has read it is by look over the shoulder of my brother.
3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog? No, not really. I mean the colors and the font of my journal matches my web site (I have my journal in an iframe on my web site). However, in regards to the writing, there really isn’t a theme to it.
4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year? The plan is to write more quality pieces in addition to stupid rants, quizzes, and other stuff. I kinda started this a could of month ago, but it died out. Also part of the plan was to answer questions from all of the book of questions that I have. I’m trying to go for 500 word entries, working my way up to 1000 in a year.
5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs.

  • Serraph’s Livejournal serraph serraph bo-berraph, me-my-mo-merraph. This is the journal of the ex-girlfriend that I have been crying over. Besides her journal skills, she also post wonderful photography shots that she has taken.
  • Overly Criticalof myself. not the whole story, but much is shared. One of my close friends, I think that I originally got the idea of doing a journal online from seeing her diary on her old site (the one that was black and pink). Also has a journal here
  • Pixiedusted theresa dahling. This is the journal of my brother’s girlfriend Theresa. She also has a journal here
  • Psyclone’s journal Is a raindrop still a drop if it’s in the ocean? I randomly found this guy’s journal after going through all of the celebrity role playing journals on Blurty. I just really like his style of writing so far. And the fact that he lives in the S. F. Bay Area.
  • Strongbad E-mail Compy 386! O. K., so not a journal or blog per se, But I will gladly pimp out StrongBad and the Homestar Runner web site.

Thank god it wasn’t a Valentine one…

Friday Five for 2/7/03

1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn’t have breakfast, why not? Had a bowl of Honey Smacks (generic brand) and a swig of Sunny D (California Style)
2. What’s your favorite cereal? Honey Nut Cherreos or Cinammon Life Cereal
3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? I used to eat out 3/4 times a week, either for lunch or dinner, or both. But I’ve had to cut back due to budget constraints. Now it’s more like once every week. Maybe more if one of the guys buys me lunch.
4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that? Hmmm…I’ve been starving myself all this week (on the broken heart diet). So not sure if I will eat or not tonight. If I do, I will probably have some salad, so I can eat it before it goes completely bad.
5. What’s your favorite restaurant? Why? I’m going to say Bennihana’s, just because it has been so long since I have gone to any restaurant, and it is the only one that I can think of right now.

Friday Five for January 31, 2003

1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why? It would have to be Batman. Superman and the other were all right, I guess, but Batman was something special. Maybe it was the mask and cape that helped. The utility belt and the cool vehicles certainly helped. I think mainly, it was because he was human, and not alien or meta-human or whatever. With no superpowers, using just his mind and weapons, he got the job done.
2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got? The G. I. Joe USS Flagg Aircraft Carrier. Probably the greatest and one of the largest toys ever created in the 1980’s. Measuring in at 7+ feet, the USS Flagg was the aircraft carrier for G. I. Joe. The child in possession of this bad boy guaranteed his place of coolness with the other kids.
3. What’s the furthest from home you’ve been? From here in San Francisco, North would have to be Oak Harbor, WA when I went to look for an old friend of mine. South would be Newport Beach, CA when I went to see Mew. Or it could have been Catalina Island when I went for Spring Break. Not sure which one is further south. East would be Las Vegas, NV. when Suzanne and I went to her friend wedding. As for west, there isn’t too much west you can travel from San Francisco, but I did drive down highway 101 from WA to CA one time, and I’m sure that parts of it are west of San Francisco.
4. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t yet? I’ve always wanted to learn how to play a guitar. Guys who play the guitar get chicks.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? I need to go grocery shopping. I was going to see a movie, but I think that I will nix that idea due to lack of funds. What else, I think that I might go to church also. Depends if I can get ready in time. And taking a whiff of the bathroom, looks like I’m cleaning that this weekend too. Happy Chinese New Year everybody!!!

Friday Five for January 24, 2003

1. What is one thing you don’t like about your body? My hair. I hate the fact that I am limited to three different hair styles; bald, box cut/flat top, and afro. I just wish there was something more that I could do with it.
2. What are two things you love about your body? I have learned to love my eyes, even though one eye is bigger than the other. My eyes can be very sexy at times and I have caught myself staring into them in a mirror, like I’m some kind on Narcissus. I also love the fact that I am tall, but not too tall (6 feet tall).
3. What are three things you want to change about your home? I wish that the bathtub was bigger, I wish that the kitchen was bigger with more counter space, and I wish that the washers/dryers were in better condition.
4. What are four books you want to read this year? I want to read more books from different genres. Usually, I end up reading Sci-fi and Fantasy, and the light mass-market stuff at that. I want to read at least on Western this year. Also want to read heavier Sci-fi/Fantasy, not just the Star Wars/Forgotten Realms stuff I usually read. I want to read one romance novel, just to say that I did. And there is one novel that came out last year. For the life of me I can’t remember the name of it, but it was about the ghost of a 15 year old if I remember correctly. I read a review of it and it sounded so good, but the library didn’t have a copy of it. Now, I’ve forgotten the title; I am hoping that I wrote it down in a previous journal entry and it’s just a matter of finding it.
5. What are five promises you have kept to yourself? Unfortunately, the path behind me is littered with burned bridges and broken promises…

Friday Five for 1/17/03

1. Where do you currently work? I am currently the Warehouse Supervisor for the San Francisco State University Bookstore. According to my job description, “The Warehouse Supervisor ensures smooth operation of the Bookstore’s warehouse, superior handling of merchandise, certifies the accuracy of information processing as it applies to the prompt and accurate processing of merchandise, the pricing and distribution of all incoming goods, and maintains very open lines of communication with the store staff. Responsible for timely delivery of merchandise to the Bookstore and maintaining accurate warehouse inventories.”
2. How many other jobs have you had and where? Other jobs include: working at Baskin Robbins (Sen. Staff Leader), Solano Baking Company (Sales Clerk), the Pumpkin Patch at the former Nut Tree (Lead Games Attendant), at the teen center in Taegu, Korea (assistant), and for the 19th Theather Support Command in Taegu, Korea (office assistant).
3. What do you like best about your job? The fact that I am in charge and that I can run things my way without anyone looking over my shoulder.
4. What do you like least about your job? Although it pays well, it is a dead end job. There is really no where for me to go from here.
5. What is your dream job? A job where I would be paid well, have job security, work with computers, and would challenge me in some way.

Almost forgot about the Friday Five.

1. Where are you right now? I am sitting in front of my computer on the second floor of my my townhouse in the city of San Francisco, located in the state of California, which is part of the United States of America, located on the North American Continent on the planet Earth, which is the third planet in this solar system.
2. What time is it? 17:40 (5:40 p.m.)
3. What are you wearing? I am wearing a white long sleeved shirt. Over that shirt I am wearing a Blair Witch Project shirt that I got from Collegeclub.com. I am also wearing a pair of Anchor Blue jeans (size 34×34), a pair of Champion socks, and some black boxer/brief underwear from Stafford.
4. Any people or animals around you? Describe them. I am all alone at home right now.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? To get over this cold that I have had for a week now. Also need to send out some emails and call some people.

1st Friday Five of the year.

1. Do you wear any jewelry? What kind? Not usually. I have some watches and some necklaces that I wear occasionally.
2. How often do you wear it? Not very often. Since I work at a warehouse, I’m afraid of scratching or breaking any jewelry I have. Usually, I save it for when I have a meeting to attend or if I am going out on the town.
3. Do you have any piercings? If so, where? No piercings; I’m not a big piercing fan. Call me old fashion.
4. Do you have any tattoos? If so, where? Unfortunately no. I’ve always wanted one; like a tiger on my right shoulder and a dragon on my left. But I don’t really have the money or the arms for one yet. Also, there is the whole needle thing to get over.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? Nothing much. Might go to the library or to Borders. That’s about it.
