The Book Of Questions – Question #150

Would you be willing to give up all television for the next five years if it would induce someone to provide for 1,000 starving children in Indonesia?

I don’t watch that much television now, so I don’t think that it would take much for me to quit altogether…

Scratch that.

I do watch a considerable amount of TV still, mainly at work. I don’t necessarily watch it; sometimes it’s just background noise. But then again, I guess I am watching more than I think that I am. Price is Right, Judge Joe Brown, Texas Justice, Judge
Mathis, Jenny Jones, Maury, Pyramid, Good Day Live. I don’t watch all day long, I do work at my job; Like I sad, mainly this is background noise (at to see what Julian Barbie is wearing). But if I need background noise, why don’t I just turn the radio on or put something on iTunes.

At home, I def. don’t watch that much TV. Usually, I watch the news with Barbara. Sometimes I’ll watch
Jeopardy or Trading Spaces with her. However, since she is home all the time, she is usually in control of the TV, which means either Discovery, TLC, or Animal Planet. Too much estrogen for me. Every once in a while, when Barbara has an appointment somewhere I get the TV and try to watch TV, but just end up flipping channels.

Well, I think that I would be willing to do it, but could I. Television is everywhere…you really can’t go down the street without being able to see a
TV. somewhere. Hell, it’s amazing at all of the TV.’s in cars that I see (Which piss me off to no end). I would have to move to some remote location in order to get away from TV. But could I watch movies and DVD’s or would that be against the rules. I think that I could get away with that too. Now if they took away the internet; that’s when my willpower would start to wane. I hate to admit it, but I don’t think that I could survive with just books. I take that back I think it would be really hard, but I could survive with just books/magazines. At least I could handle it better than other people who I know.

But man, if I missed 5 years of TV. I’m trying to think of what if I had given up
TV. five years ago to this day. What big TV events would I have missed? I guess the biggest would have been 9/11. 9/11 was a horrific event; however it was the live
TV. images more than anything else I think that imprinted itself into my memory. What else? Well, I would have missed the Trading Spaces
phenomena and Will & Grace, but those are recent things. Hmm, this is a hard question. What Would I have missed on TV if I had completely stop watching TV 5 years ago? Something to think about…Wait, Space
Shuttle explosion. That was a powerful event also.

Well hopefully, I would be able to save 1000 starving Indonesians…
