Friday Five for 3/14/03

1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not? I don’t mind talking on the phone, but I’m sure that my friends don’t see it that way sometimes (I’ll explain more on question#3). However, I’d rather talk to the person in person than over the phone. But doesn’t everybody prefer that.
2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone? According to my cell phone, it was April. But I talked to Lesa for awhile on Monday or Tuesday, I think. Actually the last person I talked to was Paulfrom work, who asked me a question about something we had at the warehouse.
3. About how many telephones do you have at home? There are 3 telephones total that I use. I have this phone in my room hanging on my desk. Then there is the cordless phone which is an older model of this phone. The phone is actually Mike’s phone. Lastly, there is my cell phone, the Panasonic Allure. The plan was that Mike and I were going to use our cell phones more than the regular phones, so I could just get basic phone service. Actually, all I wanted was just DSL, but you have to get phone service to get DSL. Anyway, the problem is that I get really bad reception here inside my house. Actually, it’s all around SF State; maybe it’s the fog or something. So in order for me to talk to someone on the phone, I either have to go outside, where it is usually cold; get into the proper position and alignment (standing in the lotus flower yoga position upside down); or talk to people while I’m at work, or at the clubhouse, or anywhere else but home. In addition to that, I hate to talk on the phone while I’m driving (I never have my headpiece with me for some reason). So if someone calls while I’m driving, I’m usually very short with them and it seems that I don’t want to talk to them.
4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened? Bad phone manners….I don’t think so. I mean, I’ve had people take me with them to the bathroom, but they’ve been close friends, so it was O. K. Then there was the whole Gabi blow drying her hair incident (You had to be there and you have to know Gabi (**big picture of Gabi and Amber**). As for me, I have the tendency to leave long messages from time to time. Like 2, 5, 10 minute messages. But only rarely.
5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not? I’m kinda either or about it. It’s just a matter of doing it. I try to remember to call or e-mail people, and I think that I’m better at it. However, I think that my track record is still pretty bad.
